Children's Ministries

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them." Based on Luke 18:15-17 Upward Basketball

The Children's Ministry Team at Midway United Methodist Church provides a loving, caring, warm and positive setting for all children to grow and soak in the SONSHINE!

We believe that children are important to the life of Midway United Methodist Church, and offer many activities and programs for your children.

If your child hasn't tried the club, now is the time! No need to pre-register, just come join our great adventure to become "empowered by the Spirit!" learning to bear "Good Fruit" in our lives! Contact Linda Caudill at lcaudill@midwayumc.org for more details.

Children's Choir
The Children's Choir is part of Wednesday evening's Adventure Club for Kids. Midway UMC Music Director Jane Scudder and Judy Harris lead practices for special programs, such as the Christmas Cantata and several Sunday morning worship services throughout the year. For more information, contact Jane Scudder at jmscud@bellsouth.net.

Children's Handchimes Choir
The children's Handchimes choir at Midway UMC is for children ages 8 - 11. Practice is every Sunday during the Forsyth County School year, 5:00 - 5:30 p.m., in the Sanctuary.

Handchimes are a lot of fun and require only basic music skills which we learn as we go! Come ring with us next Sunday! If you have questions, please contact Kellie Shugart at mshugart@bellsouth.net.

Upward Basketball and Cheerleading
Upward Basketball and Cheerleading is an evangelistic sports ministry that promotes salvation, character and self-esteem in every child. The program covers kindergarten through 12th grade, ages 5-11 and at Midway UMC, is supported by volunteers of all ages.

Registration is open to the community and there are no tryouts. Games start in December. Upward Basketball players receive and enjoy equal playing time for each player, get to play at least half of each game, receive a reversible mesh jersey and a 4-color Upward Basketball t-shirt plus free end-of-the-year award for every player and separate boys and girls leagues. Upward Cheerleaders cheer the entire game and receive a t-shirt and pom poms, plus an award.

Upward volunteers fill many roles that include praying for our program, coaching a team, refereeing a game, manning the refreshment counter and simply coming out to cheer! Join us to light the fire among the people of our community who are participating in the program.

Registration takes place every October and application forms are made available on this website. For more information on Upward at Midway UMC, call call Doug Caudill at 770-667-5622. More information on the Upward program is here.

Boy Scouts
Midway UMC offers a full range of Boy Scout programs. Cub Scouts are for boys in the first through fifth grade (or 7, 8, 9, and 10 years old). Cub Scouting's emphasis is on a quality program at the local level, where the most boys and families are involved. Fourth- and fifth-grade (or 10-year-old) boys are called Webelos (WE'll BE LOyal Scouts) and participate in more advanced activities that begin to prepare them to become Boy Scouts.

Boy Scouts is for boys 11 through 17 designed to achieve the aims of Scouting through a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster.
