Men of MidwayFishers of Men ![]() Doug Caudill Meet first Monday of the month, 7:30 PM. Check Events page for details. Why Do Men Go Fishing? Picture this, a night out fishing with your buddies, a new bass boat, the best fish finder you can buy, the fishing report says you do not even need bait because the bass are jumping into the boats. Yes, Priceless. Now it is morning. You are tired, you are hungry, your buddies smell and you did not catch a single fish. No joy in Mudsville. The Mighty Casey has struck out. You are idling and waiting your turn to put your boat on the trailer and there on the dock is a man that is waving and yelling at you. With the motor running you cannot understand what he is saying, but he yells louder and this time he is pointing to the back of your boat. You then hear what he is yelling. He is telling you to fish off the back of your boat. He is telling you to cast out your lines into the deeper water. You look at him dumbfounded and then you hear him say calmly, "just listen to me and do what I say, now go out where it is deeper and let down your nets and you will catch many fish." Wait a minute, you recognize that guy now. He is a carpenter in your town and he is not even a good carpenter. What does he know about fishing? The cast of faith into the deep water is tough fishing. This kind of fishing requires more than luck. It takes guts and a firm commitment to align yourself with God's unchanging standards no matter what the world, your coworkers or even other Christians define as "normal." Sometimes you feel as if you are fishing alone. Many men in our church and our community need and want a few true friends; Men who will go with you through life's gauntlet - celebrating victory, sharing grief and standing with you in good times and bad. When Godly men are bonded in biblical friendship, building themselves spiritually together, they become fit and equipped for His Kingdom work and service. They become Fisherman. The direction of our men's ministry is to make men spiritually mature and the challenge is to lead the men along the path of real spiritual formation. The Men of Midway have a Fish Fry and Fishing Lesson on the first Monday of each month; at 7:30 PM. Check this website or call the church office for the location of where we will be eating, swapping fishing stories and learning about "fishing for men". It is open to all men who are interested in fellowship, spiritual growth and becoming better Fisherman. To become involved, contact Doug Caudill at 678-923-2201 or dougbsn@bellsouth.net.
